Ghislaine Maxwell allowed 1st in-person federal jail visit in NYC during pandemic: report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Jeffrey Epstein confidante Ghislaine Maxwell’s defense team visited her Brooklyn jail cell on Friday, making her the first federal inmate in New York City to be allowed visitors since the COVID-19 pandemic began, according to a report.

Two of Maxwell’s attorneys visited her at the Metropolitan Detention Center Friday morning, despite the fact that other inmates haven’t been allowed visits from family members or legal representatives due to COVID-19 concerns, the Daily News reported.

The British socialite is currently being held at the Sunset Park jail on charges that she not only recruited underage girls for Epstein to sexually abuse, but participated in some of the abuse.

“I’m incredulous, really, that she was the first one when there are those of us who have been waiting for nearly six months to have an in-person visit with our clients,” attorney Susan Marcus said to the outlet.

Justin Long, a spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons, told the outlet that while “in general, legal visits are suspended, case-by-case accommodations will be accomplished at the local level and confidential legal calls will be allowed in order to ensure inmates maintain access to counsel.”

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to the charges she faces. Her trial is scheduled to take place on July 12, 2021.
