Girl, 4, attacked by pit bull in the Bronx, rushed to hospital

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 4-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked by a pit bull in the Bronx Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The girl was taken to Jacobi Hospital and is in stable condition.

The attack happened on Forster Place at about 8 a.m. in Riverdale.

The girl was walking with her family to their car to take her to school when she was bitten on the face and neck.

The dog pushed its way out of a fenced-in area, sources tell 1010 WINS.

Neighbor Bobby Mahoney attempted to loosen the dog's grip by hitting it with a baseball bat.

"I hit the dog 15, 20 times, and he didn't flinch," he said.

He finally hit the dog on the head, which worked to force the dog to let go of the girl.

The girl lost a lot of blood to the bites, Mahoney said.

The victim is the daughter of a diplomat assigned to the Kazakhstan mission at the United Nations.
