NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYC Health Department reports that four rabid raccoons have been found since the beginning of the year in or around Inwood Park in Manhattan.

These numbers have increase dramatically from the years 2012-2018, where there were only 5 rabies cases total in all of Manhattan

One Inwood resident, Barry Donlevy says hes not worried because he's only seen raccoons at night.

"In the evening when im walking my dog.and trash has been put out for the sanitation department you see them wandering close by. Even then they keep to themselves. " he says.On Friday, the health department released a set of guidelines to help keep pets safe. They urge that people keep pets on a leash and that their vaccinations be up to date.
