NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An early morning hit-and-run in Newark has left two women fighting for their lives.
Police say a white RAV4 or Honda CR-V struck the women at Verona Avenue and Broadway around 2 a.m. Sunday.
The driver was last seen heading east on Verona.
The victims were hospitalized Sunday morning in critical condition.
A witness named Henry says he saw the victims leave a bar and rushed outside moments after they were hit.
"One of them, for a moment, she was kind of out, but then when the ambulance came she kind of tried to speak," he said.
Henry described a gruesome scene, with one of the women's legs "ripped."
"The other lady, it looked like she kind of flew," he said.
The case is in the hands of the Essex County Prosecutor. Detectives are scouring for evidence as they hunt for the driver.
Surveillance video shows a white SUV going through the intersection, passing another car stopped at the light and then hitting the two women head-on before continuing east on Verona.
