NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Retail giant Macy's will be closing all of its stores nationwide amid the coronavirus shutdown.

"The health and safety of our customers, colleagues and communities is our utmost priority. As a result of the recent COVID-19 developments, we have decided to temporarily close our stores," chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc., Jeff Gennette announced in a news release. "We will work with government and health officials to assess when we will reopen our stores and safely bring our colleagues back to work."

This comes after reports Monday that a part-time worker at the company's New York City flagship store was diagnosed with COVID-19, according to the NY Daily News.

In January, the company announced it would permanently close 28 Macy’s locations and one Bloomingdale’s location in several states including California, Illinois, and Florida.

Store websites will remain open the interim and to ease boredom, shoppers can share their style finds for a chance to win a $200 Macy's gift card.
