(WWJ) Taco Bell is taking action to help eliminate the spread of cyclosporaisis, which health officials say can cause "explosive diarrhea."

The fast food chain has signs up at a number of locations announcing that they won't be putting lettuce and a handful of other items on their tacos and nachos for the time being.

The posted notice reads:

"We are currently unable to sell Lettuce, Cilantro Onion, Pico de Gallo, and Guacamole due to a nationwide recall. We apologize for the inconvenience. Any items ordered that normally come with these items WILL NOT contain them."

There thus far has been no specific produce grower/supplier or specific produce type identified as the source of the parasitic outbreak, which has spread across Michigan and several other states over the last couple of weeks.

It's unclear if anyone who ate at a Taco Bell got sick.

The largest outbreak across the country is happening in Michigan, where the Health Department at last count reported 678 cases of the illness. The health department is looking for a common link, with experts saying past outbreaks have been linked to fresh produce.

Sicknesses have been reported in 21 counties in Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, Monroe and Washtenaw counties, in the Metro Detroit area.

Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Ryan Wrecker on Monday, Michigan's Chief Medical Executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian said there's a "huge investigation" underway.
