WASHINGTON (1010 WINS) -- A man was arrested by the Secret Service after setting his clothing on fire outside the White House Friday afternoon, according to Fox News and CNN.
"ALERT: Secret Service personnel are responding to a police/medical incident on Pennsylvania Ave. along the @WhiteHouse North Fence Line," the Secret Service tweeted at 3:11 p.m.
A secret service spokesman told CNN's Jeremy Diamond, "Secret service spokeswoman tells me a man set his jacket on fire in front of the White House. He is being treated for injuries. No threat to the President."
He added, "The fire set off a good amount of smoke that was visible from the White House North Lawn. Officers quickly scrambled to clear pedestrians from Pennsylvania Ave, running & shouting at people to clear the area."
Videos posted to social media showed the man being taken away by officers.
No one in the White House was in danger, Fox News reported, but it was placed on lockdown.
There were also suspicious packages in front of the White House being investigated.
