NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police have arrested a man they say shot towards an NYPD patrol car in Far Rockaway on Wednesday, damaging the vehicle and leaving two officers with minor injuries.

Jemele Hill was arrested overnight Thursday in the shooting, according to WABC. The incident was reportedly gang-related.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that NYPD officers came across a man shooting at another man near Beach Channel Drive and Dix Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

When the man who was being shot at ran towards the officers' vehicle, the other man opened fire, striking the vehicle and breaking a window, the sources said.

A tweet by the NYPD late Wednesday also showed a bullet hole in the door of the vehicle as well as a gun recovered at the scene.

The suspect took off when an officer reportedly returned fire.

One officer was treated for a cut to his hand and another for ringing in the ears from the gunshots.

"For the second time within a week, one of our patrol cars was fired upon," the NYPD wrote in the tweet Wednesday.

"Today, officers from the 101st Precinct were confronted with a life-threatening situation when shots were fired at their police vehicle," the NYPD tweeted. "Fortunately, the officers are only being treated for minor injuries."

The other shooting the NYPD is apparently referring to was on May 31 in Arverne, Queens—not far from Wednesday's shooting.

In that shooting, police said a 21-year-old man opened fire on two officers as they sat in an NYPD vehicle on Beach 66th Street. The suspect, identified as Kane Motta, faces attempted murder charges.

According to the Daily News, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called the May 31 shooting a "a targeted attack on our law enforcement as they watched over a neighborhood on a quiet night in Queens."
