Man shot on Upper West Side among 3 killed in NYC shootings overnight

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man shot and killed at an Upper West Side apartment building was among three men killed in shootings across the city Wednesday night, police said.

The 44-year-old man, identified as Cedric Bennett, was shot at the Amsterdam Houses on Amsterdam Avenue shortly before 9 p.m.


The man was found with a gunshot wound to the face, police said. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified.

And around 11 p.m. in Washington Heights, a man was shot and killed near West 175 Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue.

Police said the man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He also has not been identified.

No arrests have been made in the shootings, according to police.

Several people were also injured in shootings in Washington Heights, East Harlem, East New York and Crown Heights overnight, police said.

The shootings come amid a surge in gun violence across the city. There have been 1,174 people shot in the city this year compared to 602 people at this time last year. The number of shootings citywide is 955 this year compared to 510 at this time last year.
