Paula Chin, 65, was last seen on Thursday at her Vestry Street apartment in TriBeCa. Her body was discovered Tuesday, in a home that she owned in Morristown.
Authorities believe Chin was killed as a result of some kind of family dispute, possibly over money.
Chin's son Jared Eng, 22, was taken into custody and he has been charged with concealment of a corpse. His girlfriend Caitlyn O'Rourke, 21, and Jennifer Lopez, 18, and were also taken into custody.
Sources said Chin was killed inside her lower Manhattan building, carried out in a garbage bag, and left with the garbage at her New Jersey home.
When asked if he killed his mother, Eng said no and added, "I loved her very much. She gave me everything."
Chin's cause of death has not been determined, but authorities say her throat appears to have been slashed.
There was no immediate information on attorneys who could comment on the defendants' behalf.
