NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Ben Hammer, 67, has lived in the same apartment in Midwood, Brooklyn for 46 years.
After 46 years, he's now being threatened with eviction.
The landlord says Hammer's vast collection of books and papers is a fire hazard.
He lives in a one-bedroom apartment with a rent freeze at $700 a month.
Hammer says that's the real reason his landlord wants him out.
The building was purchased two years ago by Benedict Realty Group.
An eviction notice Hammer received more than a year ago says there are boxes, bags, papers, drebris, filling cabinets, wood crates and books piled from floor to ceiling.
Hammer insists he's not a hoarder.
He says each book has a special meaning for him.
He and the landlord are due in housing court Tuesday.
