NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The death of NBA icon Kobe Bryant led to an outpouring of grief from sports stars, entertainers and leaders in New York and beyond.

Bryant was killed along with his 13-year-old daughter and seven other people in a helicopter crash near Los Angeles Sunday morning. Fans gathered outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles, many of them crying, embracing or staying silent as a memorial grew. The Staples Center is hosting the Grammy Awards Sunday night, and a tribute was planned for the year's biggest day in music.

His death was felt far beyond Califonia, with New York fans paying tribute to him inside and outside a Madison Square Garden lit up in the Lakers' signature gold and purple colors.
