NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Ten people stay in line overnight in the rain, and by the time Rough Trade NYC opened for business, the line wrapped around the block to celebrate Record Store Day.

Record Store Day was started to celebrate independent record stores and vinyl records.

One patron told 1010 WINS that he was planning buying a number of very limited releases only available today such as Green Day at Woodstock, Billy Joe at Carnegie Hall and Frank Sinatra's I Won't Dance.

Rough Trade manager George Flannigan explained what he thought was the appeal of vinyl records, saying, "Putting on a record, looking at the cover, pulling out the liner notes, so I think it appeals, especially to a generation now that grew up downloading."
