NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Silver bells didn't bring in much green this holiday season.

The Salvation Army is projecting a major drop in donations this season -- $12 million less in fact.

The charity blames a shortened season this year -- only 27 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, as compared to 33 days in 2018.

The Salvation Army reported more than $3.8 billion in revenue.

Their red kettle campaign provides services to some 23 million Americans including food and shelter.
