NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New Jersey man is facing murder charges related to accusations that he burned, suffocated, and punched his girfriend's two-year-old daughter Wednesday.
Trenton police responded at 4:20 p.m on Aug. 21 to a report that a 28-month-old girl was unresponsive after falling down the stairs.
The girl, identified as Lia Victoria Merino-Rodriguez, was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office alleges that Maison Andres Torres, 25, caused Merino-Rodriguez's death by burning her with scalding water, hitting her with his fists, and suffocating her with his hands.
Torres was dating Merino-Rodriguez's mother.
Torres was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
He has a detention hearing scheduled on Aug. 27.
