TRENTON (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey marked a new low in coronavirus hospitalizations on Saturday as the state's transmission rate dropped below a key level that reflects how much the virus is spreading.
Gov. Phil Murphy said there were 376 hospitalizations—the lowest number since March 24, when officials started tracking them. At the peak of the outbreak, there were over 8,000 hospitalizations.
"It's incredible what we've achieved by pulling together as one New Jersey family, but we're not over the finish line yet," Murphy tweeted. "Keep it up."
The state's transmission rate meanwhile fell below 1 for the first time since last weekend. A transmission rate above 1 indicates that for every infected person, the virus is spreading to at least one other person. The rate was last below 1 on Sunday, when it was 0.99.
The state reported 427 more cases on Saturday, bringing the total to 189,236.
There were three more deaths reported, Murphy said. The state's death toll has reached 14,114.
