NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state's COVID-19 infection rate dropped back below 1 percent on Thursday, a day after it ticked above 1 percent for the second time this month, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday.
Of the 94,818 COVID-19 test results that came back on Thursday, 908, or 0.95 percent, were positive, Cuomo said in a release Friday morning.
New York City reported 371 new cases; Westchester County reported 53 new cases; Rockland County reported 47 new cases; Suffolk County reported 52 new cases; and Nassau County reported 71 new cases.
The state's infection rate was 1.02 percent on Wednesday. On Sept. 14, it rose above 1 percent for the first time in 38 days, to 1.04 percent.
Cuomo on Friday also reported seven new COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the state's death toll to 25,446.
One of the seven people who passed away died in the Bronx; one died in Chemung County; one died in Manhattan; two died in Steuben County; one died in Suffolk County; and one died in Westchester County.
As of Thursday evening, 511 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, 154 of whom were in intensive care and 76 of whom were on ventilators.
"New Yorkers' ability to stay vigilant and conscientious toward their fellow citizens is critical as we continue to battle COVID-19 throughout the state," Cuomo said in a statement. "There is a long road ahead, but we will tackle it together by staying New York Tough."
