NYC voters can now request their absentee ballots online

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City voters who plan to vote by mail in the upcoming November election can request their absentee ballots online now.

The New York City Board of Elections launched its online absentee ballot application portal on Friday — a day after Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law a package of legislation that will allow all registered voters in New York state to vote via absentee ballot.

New York City residents who request an absentee ballot can still decide to vote in person instead if they wish to do so.

Cuomo signed the following three bills into law on Thursday:
  • A bill that gives voters the right to request an absentee ballot “due to risk of illness” to themselves or others
  • A bill that allows voters to request their absentee ballots effective immediately
  • A bill that requires the Board of Elections to count any ballots that are postmarked on or before Election Day (Nov. 3) and received within seven days after Election Day, as well as any ballots without a postmark that are received on Nov. 4
