NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a driver that fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in the Bronx Wednesday night.
Officials say at around 9:30 p.m. a pedestrian was fatally struck by an SUV while crossing Beach Avenue near Mansion Street in the Parkchester section.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered an unconscious and unresponsive man lying in the road with visible head injuries, the NYPD said.
According to the NYPD, the driver was in a light blue or silver Toyota RAV4 with a New Jersey license plate and driving southbound on Beach Avenue when it struck the victim, who was crossing the street in the middle of the block, outside of any marked crosswalks.
The driver fled the scene and continued southbound on Beach Avenue, police said.The unidentified man was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to The Daily News, the driver may have been chasing another vehicle when it struck the man.No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
