NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state reported its lowest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since mid-March on Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday.
As of Wednesday, 518 people in the state were hospitalized with complications related to COVID-19, the lowest number of patients hospitalized since March 18, Cuomo said in a release. Of the 518 hospitalized patients, 120 were in intensive care units, and 62 were on ventilators.
A total of 80,984 COVID-19 test results came back on Wednesday, 601 of which, or 0.74 percent, were positive, he said.
The governor also reported five new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state's death toll to 25,275. One of the five people who passed away died in Albany County; one died in Essex County; one died in Herkimer County; one died in Orange County and one died in Manhattan.
"Our state's continuing fight against COVID-19 has taken tremendous hard work and discipline from all New Yorkers, and we're seeing results — a new low for hospitalizations, 13 straight days of an infection rate below 1 percent, and a match of a previous low for patients in ICUs," Cuomo said in a statement.
New Yorkers should "stay vigilant in the face of a continuing crisis throughout this country and around the world," he added.
