NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A number of demonstrators who took part in anti-police brutality protests in New York City after George Floyd's death plan to file lawsuits against the NYPD, according to a report.
The New York City Comptroller's Office has received 18 notices of claim "alleging police abuses at the rallies," THE CITY reported, adding that "(d)ozens more are expected to be submitted in the coming days."
Filing a notice of claim indicates an intent to file a lawsuit.
Among those planning to sue the city is Mia Boday, a 23-year-old who told THE CITY two police officers beat her with their batons during a protest in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on June 2.
"I was just so shocked," she told the outlet. "I had never been assaulted with a weapon before. I was really stunned by how much it hurt."
Boday's boyfriend and another protester have also filed notices of claim alleging they were "beaten and arrested for peacefully protesting," the outlet reported.
An NYPD spokesperson told the outlet the department would "assess the merits of these claims once the legal actions have been filed."
