NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Skip the trip to China and instead head to the Wildlife Conservation Society's Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn to catch of glimpse of a pair of the cutest pandas around.
Two male red panda cubs -- born over the summer in their indoor den, where their mother, Willow, has been caring for them -- made their public debut this week to the delight of animal-lovers.
The WCS said the pandas are now old enough to venture outside to get acquainted with their habitat. Pandas reach adulthood at around 18 months.
Adult red pandas have reddish-brown and black coats that serve as camouflage in the wild. Panda cubs are born much lighter in color and have a very soft, plush coat. Their color darkens as they mature and grow, the WCS explained.
The red pandas at the Prospect Park Zoo, Styan’s red pandas, are a subspecies from the eastern portion of the Himalayan range in China and northern Myanmar.
