NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A retired NYPD officer reportedly shot and injured a bystander during a fight at a Queens restaurant Tuesday night.
The retired officer got into a fight with another man at Frenasia, an Asian fusion restaurant on Cross Bay Boulevard in Howard Beach, around 7:15 p.m. when he pulled a gun and accidentally shot the bystander in the back, police sources told the Daily News.
The 52-year-old retired officer opened fire when 61-year-old man he was fighting with swung a chair at him, according to the New York Post.
“They were fighting. Two customers in the back patio by the bar,” a hostess told the News. “There was a shot. It hit one man, then all the police came. They brought him out on a stretcher.”
The altercation left blood on the floor and tables overturned at the restaurant.
The 31-year-old bystander was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The hostess said he was unconscious as he was taken out of the restaurant.
The officer, who retired back in 2007, was taken into custody. It’s unclear if he was charged.
Sources told the Post the gun was legally registered to him.
