NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Transportation officials announced on Wednesday that Revel’s mopeds will return to New York City streets.
The electric moped sharing service will return Thursday at 9 a.m., just one month after it shut down its 3,000-vehicle fleet following three fatal collisions in a 10-day span.
"Over the past three weeks, we have continued our ongoing work of reviewing and strengthening our rider accountability and safety measures," a company spokesperson said.
Since its hiatus, Revel has added mandatory in-app "how-to" videos in addition to requiring that riders take photos of themselves wearing their helmets before taking off.
It will now also a 20-minute safety test consisting of 21 questions, a spokesperson added.
Mayor Bill de Blasio previously said the company would not make a come back until city officials are "satisfied it can be done safely."
Revel launched in 2018 and averaged about 8,881 daily rides across New York City by the end of May.
