NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating after they say a masked man shot at an off-duty police officer in the Bronx early Tuesday.
The incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Jennings Street, between Bryant and Longfellow avenues in the Charlotte Gardens section.
Officials said the off-duty officer, who was not in uniform, was parking his car when a verbal dispute with a group of five or six people across the street ensued.
The men also started throwing up gang signs police said.
A masked man who officials said was riding a bicycle took brandished a gun and opened fire in the direction of the off-duty cop, prompting him to return about two rounds authorities said.
The group fled in an unknown direction.
There were no injuries reported but the officer was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center.
So far no arrests were made.
Police urge anyone with information to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
