NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two thousand bus drivers, mechanics, and attendants that work for Reliant Bus Company could take a strike vote as early as Tuesday.
Their contract runs out at the end of May.
They’re demanding Gov. Cuomo sign a bill that would put money in the state budget that would give them job and wage and benefit security.
What they want is called an EPP, or employee protection provision.
These workers transport special needs children.
Maria Pericles, one of the drivers, said, “This is business pays our bills. This business feeds our children."
The EPP would guarantee that if a bus company goes out of business, the new bus company that replaces it will provide the same wage, benefits, and pension as the old bus company.
Reliant transports about 15,000 thousand special needs kids in New York City every day.
