NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday announced new efforts put in place to keep students in the classroom and COVID-19 out of schools.
As elementary school students prepare for their first day of in-person learning, parents are asked to take the temperature of each student and record on a health screening form that can be done online.
The city will be sending home free thermometers for any parents who need it and the mayor urged parents to check student's temperature in the morning.
"If your kid has a temperature, keep them home," de Blasio said.
The mayor also announced that students will be temperature checked on a daily basis as a back up.
"This is an important priority, we want to make sure everyone's healthy. and safe in our schools," he said.
Medical monitoring will be done throughout the course of the month with 10 and 20 percent of staff and students in the building randolmly tested.
Masks and hand sanitizing stations will also be put in place.
