NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Toll hikes at Hudson River and Staten Island crossings take effect Sunday—the first increases in five years.
The tolls officially went up at 3 a.m. They affect the Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, George Washington Bridge, Goethals Bridge, Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing.
E-ZPass drivers will see the largest increase: peak rates will rise $1.25 to $13.75. Non-peak hour tolls will rise $1.25 to $11.75.
Those paying cash will see their tolls go up by $1, from $15 to $16.
Not only will toll prices increase, discounts will decrease. E-ZPass user peak discounts will drop from $2.50 to $2.25, while off-peak discounts will drop from $4.50 to $4.25.
One driver, Glenn, was not happy to hear the news.
“I don’t like that, because we pay enough,” he said. “I mean, I’m paying just to go to another state. I think that’s ridiculous. I mean, it’s crazy.”
Renaldo agreed. He said he’s going to be more strapped for cash.
“It’s bad,” he said. “Especially since they don’t raise my salary. Yes, very hard. That’s bad.”
