2019 New York International Salsa Congress

Every year during Labor Day Weekend, the New York International Salsa Congress brings the world together on the dance floor. Live bands, dance showcases, instructional workshops, and non-stop social dancing in the big apple. Thousands of attendees from New York and over 40 countries worldwide come together for an annual celebration of Latin dance, music and culture.

Weekend Under The Stars

The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation has movie screenings for movie lovers. New and classic films such as "Avengers: Endgame," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Dirty Dancing" will screen both outdoors and indoors at different locations around New York City. The best part is that it's totally free!

Where: Manhattan: Bellevue South Park, Washington Square Arch (in Washington Square Park); Brooklyn:  Monsignor McGolrick Park.

Coney Island Friday Night Fireworks

Light up your Friday night at Coney Island with a free spectacular fireworks show. Alliance for Coney Island will light up the skyline weather permitting every Friday through August 30! You can bring a blanket to catch the show on the beach, but visitors are welcomed anywhere in the Amusement District down to the boardwalk. Come for the fireworks and stay for the rides.

Smorgasburg

Fill your belly at the largest weekly open-air food market in America. Choose from 100 local vendors—Saturdays on the Williamsburg waterfront and Sundays in beautiful Prospect Park. These small vendors from all over will satisfy any foodie with items like the ramen burger, mozzarella sticks and many, many more.

West Indian Day Parade

The most colorful event in New York City, Labor Day Parade or West Indian Day Carnival gathers around two million people in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on the first Monday of September. People dress in really vivid and bright costumes with feathers and crystals. The parade marches along the Eastern Parkway accompanied by the sounds of drums, whistles, reggae and calypso music, and sometimes throw powdered paint at each other. Vendors sell some great Caribbean foods and beverages along the way so that both marchers and watchers can fuel up and continue to party. Costumed revelers also compete for a cash prize.

Electric Zoo

New York's Electronic Music Festival turns the green lawn on Randall's Island into a major party! As one of the city's largest music festivals, it features wide variety of acts including some of EDM's top names. This year’s 10th annual New York edition is themed ‘The Big Ten’ and its acts include Diplo, Zedd and Afrojack on the main stage.

44th Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show - Opening Day

Top equestrians from atound the globe compete for more than $800,000 in prize money at the annual Hampton Classic. It has one of the largest outdoor horse shows in the United States, a premier destination for horse people, and a much-anticipated stop on the summer tour for competitors. Spectators can also enjoy more than 80 onsite shops, a dozen International food options, daily activities in the kids' area, and Monday's annual Animal Adoption Day, featuring rescued dogs, cats, and horses in search of a forever home.

NYC Unicycle Festival

Ditch that pesky second wheel and join hundreds of riders for four days of activities. Whether you're a rider or just a spectator, Uni Fest has something for everyone. The festival is produced annually by the Brooklyn-based Bindlestiff Family Cirkus, and its main events take place on Governors Island from 12pm-5pm. Activities include races, competitions, exhibitions, and a variety of unicycle sports including basketball and sumo. World-famous riders display their skills, and members of the public have the opportunity to try one-wheeling in the learn-to-ride area. Pro tip: You must sign a waiver to ride.

GMA Summer Series: Kane Brown and Marshmello

Kane Brown and Marshmello will close out the "GMA" Summer Concert Series with a live performance from New York City's Central Park on Friday. The  performance will be available live in virtual reality and also accessible on any smartphone in full 360-degree video through the MelodyVR app. This technology will allow for those that have to miss out on the concert to watch the show from multiple points of views. Fans can control their own camera angle, be it on stage "with" Marshmello and Kane Brown, or watch from the front row or the middle of the crowd. Fans will able to enjoy this free performance and hear the hit song "One Thing Right". Entrance to the concerti is based on a on a first-come, first-served basis as space allows.

Where: Central Park's Rumsey Playfield on East 72nd Street off Fifth Avenue.

When: Friday Aug. 30. The park opens to the public at 6:00 a.m.; Concerts air live from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Bronx Night Market

The Bronx Night Market is the largest global food and culture celebration in The Bronx. The market has over 50 food, drink, and artisan vendors that represent the city’s diverse offerings and support up-and-coming food concepts, all the while encouraging visitors from the greater New York area and beyond to explore the borough. Just make sure to come hungry!
