NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Parents of students at private Westchester County elementary school were left stunned after a white teacher held a mock slave auction with her black students as part of a fifth-grade history lesson for her class, reports The Daily News.
Officials at the Chapel School at the Village Lutheran Church in Bronxville are investigating the incident principal Michael Schultz told the newspaper.
"We're in midst of an investigation and we are unable to give any other comment at this time," Shultz said.
During the mock slave auction, white students "bid" on black students, who played slaves.
The incident is also being probed by state Attorney General Letitia James.
"The reports of racist 'lessons' by a teacher at The Chapel School are deeply troubling," James said. "My office is monitoring this matter closely."
Vernex Harding said her son, who is black, was one of the students singled out by teacher Rebecca Antinozzi for the fake slave auction.
"I'm shocked and infuriated that this happened to my son," said Harding. "I'm very shaken."
