'Wild Things' on display at Village Halloween parade

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- All eyes were on the West Village  Halloween night at the 46th annual Village Halloween parade.

The parade kicked off at 7 p.m. Thursday at Spring Street and Sixth Avenue.

Some wild costumes coule be seen this year in honor of the "Wild Thing" theme.

Serving as Grand Marshal at this year’s parade is master puppeteer Basil Twist who will send his giant spider puppet, Zhora, to lead the way down the parade which runs on Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to 16th Street.

At least 70,000 marchers were on hand to make this the world's largest Halloween parade, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported. One million people total were expected at the parade.

The parade ended around 10:30 p.m.The parade is free to watch or take part in, but for those wanting to be a part of the “Wild Thing” special section, they can do so for $25 as long as they wear the proper themed costumes.

There was no car-traffic allowed to cross the route during the procession. There were road closures and large crowds near the Village.
