NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Queens woman died after she was struck by a vehicle twice, and now the driver of that vehicle is facing criminal charges.
Yulan Lu, 68, was in a crosswalk near 58 Road and the Queens Midtown Expressway in Middle Village on Friday evening when she was struck by a vehicle, police said.
She was rushed to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst with trauma to her head and body. She was ultimately pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say Lu was struck by a white 2020 Chevy van. They say its driver plowed into Lu while making a right turn onto 58 Road from the Queens Midtown Expressway.
The force of the impact sent Lu into the roadway, where she was struck a second time by the white Chevy van, police said.
The alleged driver of the van, 33-year-old George Guzman of Queens, was arrested on charges of failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to use due care causing serious injury. Police say he stayed at the scene after the crash.
It's already shaping up to be another deadly year for pedestrians in the city. Four pedestrians were struck in three separate incidents alone on Tuesday this week—two of them died and a third was in critical condition.
