TOMS RIVER, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Canadian teen boy has been charged in connection to two swatting incidents that happened earlier this month in New Jersey, police said Tuesday.

On Nov. 21, authorities were called to Toms River Intermediate East in Toms River after the school received a threat, officials said.

Swatting is when someone makes a prank emergency call with the intention of bringing out a large number of armed police officers to a place.

After officers checked and cleared the school before the start of the day, investigators traced the phony threat back to a 14-year-old boy in Edmonton, Alberta-- located about 2,400 miles from Toms River. Cops also found out he was the source of another swatting incident a day earlier in Toms River.

Canadian authorities arrested and charged the boy.
