WESTPORT, Conn. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Westport Police are looking for two missing boaters after a vessel sunk Sunday morning in the Long Island Sound with five people aboard.
At around 4:09 p.m., police received an alert about the capsizing after a passing boater near Cockenoe Island spotted a man standing on a navigational buoy.
A search and rescue effort started, and a second man and a woman were rescued from the water.
All three individuals were safely transported to Norwalk Marina and later taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Due to a language barrier, a translator was requested to assist responding officers.
During communication with the survivors, it was revealed that a total of five individuals had been aboard a small boat that had sunk, forcing all of them into the water.
Westport Police Marine Division, U.S. Coast Guard Marine and Air Units, as well as the Suffolk County Air Unit, continue to look for the two missing individuals.
