
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 3-year-old child drowned in a backyard swimming pool on Wednesday afternoon in New Jersey, according to local police.
The Toms River Police Department received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child who had been pulled from the water at a home on Hazelwood Drive, according to Jersey Shore Online.
Toms River Police Chief Mitch Little told Jersey Shore that Fire Chief Travis Veth was the first to arrive on the scene, within 30 seconds of the call. RWJ Barnabas Health paramedics and Brick Township EMS also responded to the emergency.
Brick EMS attempted to take the child to Community Medical Center, CPR was administered but the child died.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
