Alleged killer arrested after body of 61-year-old man is found in NJ home

PARAMUS, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man from Paramus, New Jersey was arrested on Friday for the murder of a 61-year-old man whose body was found in a house, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said.

At 5:40 p.m. on Friday, the Paramus Police Department responded to 693 Bruce Drive after receiving a report of a possible homicide.

In the basement of the home officers found a 61-year-old man, identified as Manuel Thomas, in the basement with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Authorities said that shortly after the body was discovered, Melvin Thomas, 32, was identified as a suspect and taken into custody.

Melvin was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree desecration of human remains, second-degree hindering and two possession of a weapon charges, prosecutors said.

The district attorney’s office did not provide the relationship between the victim and defendant, but a neighbor told northjersey.com that a father and son lived in the home.

According to property records obtained by NJ, Manuel is the owner of the home where his body was found.

The defendant is in Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in court.
