PARAMUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A five-vehicle crash involving a horse trailer led to a body being ejected from a hearse transport van in New Jersey, police said.

The body was en route to a funeral home from the hospital on Route 17 Southbound in Paramus on Friday around 3:45 p.m. when the crash happened.

Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg told the Daily Voice that the corpse was wrapped in a sheet on a stretcher when it popped out of the vehicle but the body was not damaged in the crash.

Another hearse came to get the body after the crash so it could get to its destination, police said.

Three people were taken to the hospital with injuries though none were reported as serious.

The horse that was in the trailer was taken out by a handler and escaped without injury where it munched on grass on the side of the road before a new horse trailer retrieved it.
