FORT LEE, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 7-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when he fell 21 stories from a high-rise apartment building in Fort Lee, officials said Thursday as his death was deemed accidental.

Multiple residents called 911 around 5:30 p.m. after the boy plunged from a window on the 21st floor of the 22-story Hampshire House apartments on Anderson Avenue, about a half-mile from the George Washington Bridge.

The boy was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, which is leading the investigation into the fall, said investigators determined the circumstances surrounding his death "were the result of a tragic accident and no criminal activity was involved."

Authorities haven't yet identified the child or released details about what may have led to the fall.
