The 44-year-old, Edwin Hernandez, repeatedly asked the man to share his cigarette on the morning of Aug. 18, 2019 in front of the Galleria mall in White Plains. When the man refused, Hernandez flew into a rage, officials said.
Hernandez cut the victim at the base of his neck with a sharp object, leaving a 5-inch laceration, according to authorities.
After slashing the man, Hernandez then walked away as the victim went for help inside of the mall. He was taken to White Plains Hospital where he received 29 stitches.
In May, Hernandez pleaded guilty to felony assault. Along with seven years behind bars, he was given five years of post-release supervision.
