NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – A woman who worked as a policy analyst for New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy's office was killed in a car crash in New Jersey early New Year's Day, according to prosecutors.
Police received a 911 call reporting a multi-vehicle crash on Route 1 South in Princeton, College Road at around 2 a.m.
The victim, Louisa Carman, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Plainsboro Police Department.
It was not immediately clear whether Carman was the driver or how many people were in the car.
The crash is still under investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
"Our hearts are broken as we grapple with this devastating news," Murphy said in a statement Monday night. "Carman played a significant role in the governor's Office of Health Care Affordability and Transparency, where she was involved in efforts to make health care more affordable and accessible to New Jersey residents."
Carman's journey with the governor's office began as an intern in the fall of 2021, following her graduation from Swarthmore College. Within four months, she became a full-time employee.
"Louisa will be remembered as a kind and caring colleague who approached her work with grace, integrity, and a deep commitment to making a difference in our world," Murphy wrote on X. "I, and everyone on our team, will miss her terribly. Our prayers are with her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
No other injuries were reported in the multi-car crash, and the cause is still under investigation.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office asks anyone with information or surveillance footage to call Detective Justin Kowalczyk of the Plainsboro Police Department at 609-799-2333 ext. 1644 or Detective Jim Alleva of the prosecutor's office at 732-745-4011.
