PATERSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) – A boy was killed and his teenage brother was wounded in a stabbing at the home where they lived with their mother in Paterson on Saturday morning, authorities and neighbors said.
Paterson police responded to a home on N. 6th Street, near Clinton Street, around 7 a.m., according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.
Officers went to the third floor of the home and found the two victims, a 7-year-old and a 17-year-old, with stab wounds, authorities said.
Both victims were rushed to St. Joseph's University Medical Center.
The boy was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, while his brother was treated for his injuries and released.
Authorities said an investigation remains active and ongoing.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing weren't immediately known.
Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh told 1010 WINS that it was an act of domestic violence and that a suspect was apprehended.
Horrified neighbors said the 7-year-old was rarely outside but that they saw the mother frequently. She was always dressed as though she was going to church and carried a Bible as she walked up and down the block. She often said, "God bless you," but never said anything else, neighbors said.
