LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A choking man turned blue at a Long Island care facility before he was saved by a quick-thinking worker and cops with a suction apparatus, Nassau County police said Tuesday.

The 58-year-old man was eating lunch at the Adults & Children with Learning & Developmental Disabilities center on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown around 12:15 p.m. Monday when he began choking on his food.

A 60-year-old woman working at the facility noticed him struggling to breathe and jumped into action, calling police and administering CPR.

The victim's oxygen level was so low that he turned blue, police said.

When officers arrived, they used a LifeVac device to suck the food from his airway.

He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was in stable condition.
