HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- More than 100,000 families in Connecticut will receive an additional $16.2 million in food assistance benefits to help them make ends meet as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Gov. Ned Lamont's office said Wednesday.
Connecticut's Department of Social Services will provide $16.2 million in Emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance benefits, or SNAP benefits, to around 105,000 households that aren't currently receiving the maximum SNAP benefits their sizes allow, Lamont said in a release.
That number represents nearly half of Connecticut's SNAP participants, the release noted. Families will receive the additional benefits even if they don't normally qualify for the maximum amount, it added.
More information about the additional SNAP benefits is available on the state's website.
Lamont on Wednesday reported four new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the state's death toll to 4,537.
Of the 8,359 COVID-19 test results that came back on Tuesday, 164, or 2 percent, were positive, he said — down from Monday's 2.4 percent, which was the highest infection rate Connecticut has reported since June.
As of Tuesday, 188 people in the state were hospitalized with COVID-19, up by 16 from Monday.
