Death of man found in NJ river ruled homicide

SECAUCUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- The Regional Medical Examiner's Office in New Jersey has ruled the death of a man found in the Hackensack River over the weekend a homicide, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced on Monday.

An autopsy performed on Sunday determined the man died of gunshot wounds to the upper body.


At approximately 12:45 p.m., the Secaucus Police Department was notified of a possible body in the Hackensack River near the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike.

The body was recovered with help from dive teams from the Lyndhurst and Mahwah fire departments and additional support from the Secaucus, Kearny and Wallington fire departments, officials said.

He was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Officials are working to identify the man.
