BERNARDS, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating after the remains of a dog were found inside a dog food bag along a New Jersey highway Wednesday morning—a month after the bodies of four dogs were found under similar conditions along another highway in the state.
At approximately 10 a.m., troopers responded to a report of a suspicious package located on the right shoulder of I-287 North near milepost 25 in Bernards Township, Somerset County.
Upon arrival, troopers recovered a large green "Retriever" brand dog food bag containing the remains of a deceased black canine, authorities said.
Detectives believe the bag was discarded sometime between 10 p.m. on April 15 and 10 a.m. on April 16.
The disturbing find comes about a month after police found four pit bulls dead inside dog food bags along the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County.
Police have not given any indication the two cases are related.
