NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation translator shot down rumors that she had a relationship with Bill Gates that led to his split with Melinda Gates, calling them “unfounded,” according to a report.
Zhe “Shelly” Wang, who joined the foundation as an interpreter in March 2015, addressed the rumors on Weibo, a Chinese social media site, the New York Post reported.
“I would like to thank everyone for their concern and help in dispelling the rumors through private messages in the past 24 hours,” she wrote, according to the outlet.
“I thought that the rumors would go away by themselves, but I did not expect the rumors to become more and more crazily spread,” she added. “How many books can I read, so why spend time on the unfounded rumors?”
The Gateses announced their decision to end their marriage of 27 years earlier this week.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” they wrote in a joint statement. “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives.”
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” they added. “We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
