POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Guns and potential explosive-making materials were found after the father of a Marist College student was shot and killed Sunday at a hotel 10 minutes from the school during its "Family Weekend," authorities said.
Authorities descended around 7:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired inside a Courtyard by Marriott hotel on South Road in Poughkeepsie.
A man was found inside with a fatal gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
Two suspects were taken into custody.
Police have not released the identities of the victim or the suspected shooter.
CBS 2 reported the unidentified victim was the father of a student, but Marist College only identified them as the relative of a current student.
"This morning, authorities made us aware of the tragic, fatal shooting of a family member of a Marist student at a local hotel several miles from campus," the school said in an email to students Sunday. "Our deepest condolences go out to the family, and we are offering the full support of the Marist community."

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said that "manuals related to the making of explosive devices as well as materials with the potential to be used as explosives" were found in a hotel room.
A source told NBC 4 that a firearm with a Glock switch, thought to have been used in the shooting, was discovered on the roof of the suspect's car, while a ghost gun rifle was discovered in his room. The suspected shooter was also in possession of a 30-round high-capacity magazine.
A search warrant was executed early Monday on the car where investigators believed there may have been Tannerite, which is used in long-range target practice and explodes upon impact.
According to the source, the gunfire erupted Sunday after the shooter went down to the hotel lobby to get coffee and got into an argument with some hotel staff and others, killing the victim, an innocent bystander.
The two suspects were allegedly in a hotel room before smoking a PCP-like substance.
Members of the New York Team of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were supporting police on the scene.
