CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Suffolk County police arrested a homeless man Saturday in connection with assaults on two women inside their homes on Long Island earlier this month.
Derrick Clancy, 42, allegedly broke into two different houses in Mastic Beach, according to Suffolk police.
Clancy entered the home of a 78-year-old woman on Oct. 10 by climbing through an unlocked window at around 4 a.m., police said.
A week later, on Oct. 17, he allegedly broke a window and entered the home of another woman, 75, at around 12:40 a.m.
Both women were at home alone at the time of the break-ins.
The burglar allegedly sexually assaulted one woman and tried to rape another, according to court documents.
The victims were assaulted, but their injuries were not life-threatening. They were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Clancy did not steal anything from the homes, police said.
One of the victims worked with a police department artist to create a composite sketch of the assailant.
The arrest was made on Saturday afternoon on Carleton Avenue in Central Islip and Clancy now faces two felony counts of burglary.
He is scheduled to return to court on Monday.
