Illinois To Allow In-Person Summer School With COVID-19 Guidelines

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor Pritzker issued an executive order Thursday afternoon allowing Illinois school districts to hold in-person summer school programs, but there are a lot of guidelines for them to follow if they go ahead.

Schools are advised to put signs up and markers on the floor reminding everyone to remain physically distant from others. There are to be no more than 10 people in any area, like a classroom, and everyone must keep a six-foot distance.

According to the order, schools are required to provide masks for employees who are unable to ensure the six-foot distance, and should make an effort to provide students with disposable masks.

Behind-the-wheel driver's education classes are allowed, but cars are to be sanitized after each use, and no more than two students and one instructor are inside the vehicle at any time.

If gym classes have to be indoors, there should be partitioned areas for students and locker room use is discouraged.

It is unsure how many districts will make their summer school programs in-person. Chicago Public Schools has already decided summer school will be done by remote learning.
