According to court documents and statements made in court, Dominic Maloney, of Bordentown, was indicted in February 2022 in Mercer County Superior Court on felony charges of unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault and making terroristic threats.

Pending this indictment, federal law prohibits Maloney from transporting firearms in interstate commerce. Yet a review of Maloney's Instagram and an account of his "associate's" indicated that the 19-year-old was in Georgia to obtain guns and intended to transport those firearms to New Jersey and sell them to others for profit, prosecutors said.

Authorities on Wednesday identified Maloney as a passenger in a northbound silver 2007 Nissan Armada on Interstate 95 in Maryland, along with three other people.

Officials said police stopped the SUV on Interstate 295 in New Jersey. A search of the vehicle recovered 11 firearms from the trunk, including eight semiautomatic pistols, one semiautomatic rifle and two shotguns.

Maloney was arrested in Salem County on Wednesday and charged in a three-count criminal complaint with conspiracy to engage in firearms trafficking, unlawful transportation of firearms in interstate commerce while under felony indictment and unlawful transportation of firearms obtained in another state.

He made his first appearance on the charges in U.S. Magistrate Court on Friday, authorities said.
